Modern Synthesis

Material and Product development

As a founding team member and Senior Innovation Concept & Product Developer at Modern Synthesis—an $11M venture-backed biotech startup—I served as the primary bridge between C-Suite executive strategy, lab science, and international commercial production. Modern Synthesis utilizes microbial fermentation to grow nanocellulose textiles aimed at displacing petroleum-based materials. I spearheaded end-to-end product design, technical framework implementation, and factory execution—managing a dynamic pipeline of 20+ concept material directions, custom mineral pigments, and surface embossing formulations to take volatile bio-substrates from early lab concepts into Tier-1 bulk execution.

GANNI x MODSYNTH

  • The Challenge: Transition GANNI's iconic Bou Bag silhouette into a fully circular biomaterial format without compromising its distinctive structural shape, drape, or luxury hand-feel.

  • The Execution: As Senior Material Innovation Specialist, I led the physical application strategy. I translated raw microbial formulations into a manufacturing-ready material architecture, oversaw tech pack execution, and led factory fitting sessions with Tier-1 suppliers to ensure flawless construction and zero structural failures.

IN-HOUSE CATALOGUE & SMALL LEATHER GOODS

  • The Challenge: Prove material workability, versatility, and industrial machine compatibility across diverse commercial product categories.

  • The Execution: Designed and fabricated an internal commercial product catalogue spanning wallets, keychains, and structured bags. Used this pipeline to test mechanical stress, pattern manipulation, and standard industrial stitching, establishing the company’s internal baseline for product durability and global brand partner showcases.
