Bio-Synthetic Matrix Application & Upcycled Sportswear Hardware

This independent initiative utilized deadstock Adidas equipment as a physical testing canvas to demonstrate a viable blueprint for sustainable embellishment in technical sportswear. The project showcases how mass-produced, existing synthetic inventory can be biologically retrofitted to create high-value, circular design concepts—offering an eco-conscious replacement for traditional petrochemical branding, trims, and molded plastic hardware.

01. ENGINEER

Localized Bio-Synthetic Matrix Formulation

To replace petroleum-derived TPU coatings, PVC badging, and synthetic hard parts, I engineered a localized, plant-based bio-synthetic matrix. The substrate was formulated to yield a structural, faceted geometric lattice capable of bonding directly to heavy-duty synthetic technical fabrics without peeling or degrading under movement.

02. DESIGN

Grounded Form & Geometric Integration

Using the original Adidas accessory architecture as a structural foundation, I designed a multi-dimensional geometric surface pattern. The natural light-refracting and translucent properties of the engineered matrix dictate the visual drape and aesthetic of the piece—transforming a deadstock, utilitarian item into a luxury-tier, high-concept accessory.

03. DEVELOP

Direct-to-Garment Application & Retrofitting Workflows

To prove commercial viability for sportswear manufacturers, I established application techniques that work over pre-existing industrial synthetics. This process establishes a technical roadmap for brands to repurpose deadstock inventory, integrate zero-petrochemical hardware, and apply localized bio-embellishments directly within existing accessory assembly lines.
