PERSPIRE
SWEAT IS LUXURY
IN ITS RAWEST FORM
My work Perspire is a design project that transforms human sweat crystals into wearable embellishments, blurring the line between biology and fashion. As a material designer working at the intersection of science and art, I explore how our bodies themselves can produce adornment. By encouraging participants to exercise in specially designed garments, she collects and cultivates their perspiration until it crystallises, forming unique, glistening structures on shoes and accessories. Each crystal pattern is as individual as a fingerprint, highlighting the intimate connection between human biology, identity, and design. Perspire challenges conventional ideas of luxury by shifting value away from rare external resources toward the natural processes of the human body.
